Jean E. Davis, 86, of Carlisle passed away Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the Blue Ash Hospice in Cincinnati.

She was born September 12, 1922 in Carlisle to Guy E. and Anna A. Wolfe (Summers). A lifelong resident of Carlisle, she graduated from Purdue University in 1943 with a degree in dietetics. After completing an internship in Charlotte, NC, she accepted a position in St. Louis, where she met and wed Roy C. Davis.

During her lifetime, she was an active member of the Shaker Prairie Christian Church, the Purdue Alumni Association, The Sullivan County Home Ec Club , the Sorosis Club, and served as an adult leader of the Carlisle 4-H Club. Employed for many years as a dietician for Good Samaritan Hospital, she took special interest in teaching classes to adult and juvenile diabetics.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Davis; a daughter, Susan J. Davis; and a son, Neil S. Davis.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy La Grotta and son-in-law, Bill, of Cincinnati; one son, Scott W. Davis and daughter-in-law, Cindy, of Greenfield; three granddaughters, Alison Bowers and husband, Andy, of Mesa, Arizona, Jennifer and Stephanie La Grotta of Atlanta; nephews, Richard Davis of Kansas City and John Davis of St. Louis; and ten beloved first cousins.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Shaker Prairie Christian Church with Rev. Bill Burress officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the Church. Holmes Memorial Chapel, Sullivan has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Cemetery, c/o Betty Stout, PO Box 408, Bruceville, IN, 47516.
