Harold E. "Pete" Grubaugh, 83, of Sullivan passed away at 12:40 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2009 at the Breckenridge Health and Rehabilitation Center. The U.S. Army veteran of WWII was born September 4, 1926 in Oaktown to Edward Grubaugh and Elsie Kelly Grubaugh. He was a retired Sullivan City Fireman, a former Sullivan City policeman and a beverage truck driver. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years Betty Jane Stearley Grubaugh of Sullivan whom he married April 14, 1947, one son Ronnie Moore, Jacksonville, FL, two daughters Brenda Grubaugh, Sullivan, Janice (and Michael) Garrett, Merom, three sisters Naomi Baker, Seattle, Josephine Harris and Dorothy Connerley both of Oaktown, four grandchildren Amber Alton, Shad Pounds, Tia Roessler and Dirk Pounds, eight great grandchildren Lacey Buchanan, Dakota Roessler, Kiki Roessler, Kaitlin Roessler, Demi Roessler, Erin Pounds, Mackensie Pounds and Daric Pounds and other relatives.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Holmes Memorial Chapel, Sullivan with Rev. Bill Sam Phegley officiating. Burial with military rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legions and the Sullivan Veterans of Foreign Wars will be in the Center Ridge Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8:00 p.m. Monday.
