Thomas L. "Tom" Drake, 66, of Shelburn died at 2:46 a.m. Sunday, December 26, 2010 in Sullivan County Community Hospital. He was born December 14, 1944 in Sullivan County to Don D Drake and Esther Decker Drake. He was a graduate of Lakeview High School in FL and received a degree in pre-engineering from Orlando Junior College in FL. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the Army. He worked for Kennedy Trucking and was co-owner of Drake and Son's Trailer Manufacturing of Shelburn. He was also a member of State Street Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a son David Drake and his father Don Drake.
Survivors include his wife of thirty-six years, Ardath Griggs Drake of Shelburn, whom he married on August 23, 1974, his mother of Sullivan, one son Kevin Drake of Carlisle, five daughters, Joy Thomasson (and Matt) of Jasonville IN, Deborah Dunlap (and James) of Thornton IL, Rachel Drake of Shelburn, Esther Darlene Houtz (and Micah) of Epping NH, and Helen Denise Davis (and Jason) of Loogootee IN, one brother Jerry Drake of FL, two sisters Judy Waltman and Nancy Sajkowicz of Sullivan, twelve grandchildren, Anthony Dunlap, Cameron Dunlap, Samantha Dunlap, Tucker Thomasson, Stephen Thomasson, Matthew Thomasson, Emma LaVallie, Sydney Drake, Austin Drake, Quinn Houtz, Adele Houtz, and Jasper Davis and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Holmes Memorial Chapel with Brother Abe Miller officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 pm Wednesday. Burial will be in the Center Ridge Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn, and Hymera American Legions and the Sullivan VFW. If friends so desire memorial contributions may be made to the State Street Church of Christ with envelopes available at the funeral home.
