Robert "Bob" Walters, 85, of Carlisle went to be with his loving Lord at 3:54 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010 in Terre Haute Regional Hospital while surrounded by his loving family. The 1943 graduate of Carlisle High School was born February 4, 1925 in Carlisle to Jess Walters and Rachael Nash Walters. Bob retired after thirty-five years of service with the U.S. Postal Service where his daughter was his postmaster and boss for two years. He was also a retired farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII where he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received during action in France. He was a member of the Carlisle United Methodist Church, a Past Commander and member of the American Legion, a lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans, a volunteer at the Sullivan County Community Hospital and a member of the Sullivan County Farm Bureau. He was a graduate of Indiana University and a lifetime member of the IU Alumni. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Robert Jess "Bobby" Walters.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years Faye Ready Walters of Carlisle whom he married September 19, 1954, one daughter Mary Ann (and Chip) Dudley of Carlisle, his beloved grandchildren Rob (and Susan) Brooks, Katie (and Bobby) Farmer and Randi Dudley all of Carlisle and Jess Walters , Sullivan, his great grandchildren Will and Nick Brooks and Camryn Farmer.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan with Rev. Michael Irvine officiating. Burial with military graveside rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legions and the Sullivan Veterans of Foreign Wars will be in the Carlisle Odd Fellows Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rob Brooks, Jess Walters, Bobby Farmer, Chip Dudley, Dick Knotts and Kyler Knotts. Visitation is 4-8:00 p.m. Friday. Those who wish may make donations to the Carlisle United Methodist Church.
