Robert Harlan "Nick" Nickeson, 79, of Sullivan passed away at 4:00 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. The 1948 graduate of Elmwood High School was born July 31, 1930 in Elmwood, IL to John Nickeson and Almeda Plumer Nickeson. He was a retired master mechanic for the Amax Coal Co., a farmer and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Dugger Masonic Lodge 721 F&AM, the Scottish Rite, Valley of Terre Haute, the Zorah Shrine Temple, a past director and member of the Royal Order of Jester's and a past president and member of the Sullivan County Shrine Club. Nick, was also a member of the Sullivan American Legion, the Sullivan Elks Club #911, the Indiana Purebred Association, the Sullivan County Pork Producers Association, a past president and member of the Indiana Duroc Association, a supporter of the Sullivan County 4-H Fair and an exhibitor at the Indiana State Fair for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of thirty years Alice "Polly" Hamilton Nickeson of Sullivan whom he married December 28, 1979, three daughters Cindy (and Lyle) Lamprecht, Pace, FL, Sandy (and Bill) Watkins, Quartz Hill, CA and Julie Davis, Santa Clarita, CA, two step-daughters Sandy (Donnis) Wilson and Molly (and Gery) Thompson all of Sullivan, a step-son Bill (and Jean Ann) Fisher, Sullivan, a brother Charles Nickeson, Minneapolis, a sister Eleanor Carson, Alice Springs, MN, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, seven step great grandchildren and other relatives.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Holmes Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dale Wise officiating. Burial with military graveside rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legions and the Sullivan Veterans of Foreign Wars will be in the Center Ridge Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8:00 p.m. Sunday with Masonic services at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
