Richard Lee "Dick" Phegley, 76, of Carlisle passed away at 6:15 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. The 1951 graduate of Carlisle High School was born June 15, 1933 in Sullivan to Jason Phegley and Mary Frances Nash Phegley. He was a retired District Maintenance Engineer for the Indiana Department of Highways and a Real Estate Broker. He was a member of the Shaker Prairie Christian Church, the Bicknell Elks Club, The Carlisle Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, the Carlisle Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and U.S. Army veteran. Dick was a 1955 graduate of Rose Poly Technical Institute and a member of the Indiana Society of Professional Land Surveyors. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Jason Phegley and one grandchild.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years Mary Jane McCammon Phegley of Carlisle whom he married June 12, 1954, one son Randall (and Carla) Phegley, Sandborn, one daughter Katherine Jenise Phegley, Carlisle, two brothers Tommy Phegley, Bradenton, FL and Donald Phegley, Graysville, two grandchildren Lanessa Phegley and Jason Richard Phegley and other relatives.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Holmes Memorial Chapel, Sullivan with Revs. Bill Burress, Harold Hatfield and Carl Williams officiating. Burial with military graveside rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legions and the Sullivan VFW will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Carlisle. Visitation is 4-8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
