Jack Franklin Gilbert, 89, of Shelburn passed away at 1:05 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2010 at the Sullivan County Community Hospital. The 1939 graduate of Trinidad High School was born October 9, 1920 in Middlesboro, KY to Charles Gilbert and Onnie White Gilbert. He was a retired hospital administrator for the Indiana Air National Guard and a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Shelburn American Legion, the VFW and the Shelburn Ruritan Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons Bradley Neil Gilbert and Christopher "Chris" Gilbert, two brothers Coye Gilbert and Raymond Gilbert and one sister Doris Carter.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years Mary Kathryn Nash Gilbert of Shelburn whom he married January 6, 1951, two sons Mark (and Deb) Gilbert, Sullivan and Neil Gilbert, Shelburn, one daughter Melinda Gilbert, Shelburn, four grandchildren Lindsay Hunter, Meredith Gilbert, Ian Gilbert and Jordan Gilbert, four great grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Holmes Memorial Chapel, Sullivan. Burial with military graveside rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legions and the Sullivan VFW will be in the Little Flock Cemetery, Shelburn. Visitation will be 4-8:00 p.m. Thursday.
