James "Jim" Scott Doolittle, 47, Highland, and formerly of Evansville, died Saturday night, April 3, 2010, in Sullivan County.
He was born Feb. 5, 1963, in Evansville to John and Mary Jo Doolittle. He was a Boy Scout, having earned his Eagle Scout Award. He was graduated from Mater Dei High School in 1981, Purdue University in 1985, with a bachelor-of-science degree in metallurgical engineering, and attained his master's degree in 1988. He was employed by Inland Steel in 1988, now called ArcelorMittal Steel, and most recently his engineering job was as Section Manager of Quality Assurance at the Rolling Mill. He was an avid computer programmer, having written several programs for the Homeseer Home Automation Co. He was a member of Ridge United Methodist Church in Munster, since 1990 and had served on several committees and boards at the church, including a long-time dedicated sound board operator for the Solid Ground service. The member and past leader in the Emmaus Community, loved reading, weight lifting, camping, gardening and working on computers and spending time with "his girls."
Survivors include his parents; Evansville, his wife, whom he married Aug. 17, 1985 ; Mary Burton Doolittle, formerly of Graysville; three daughters, Jamie Marie Doolittle, Shannon Leigh Doolittle and Kathleen Elizabeth Doolittle, all at home; one brother, Patrick (and Elaine) Doolittle, Owensboro, Ky.; and other relatives, including his father- and mother-in-law, Dwight and Marijune Burton, Graysville; one brother-in-law, Barney (and Susan) Burton, Graysville, and one sister-in-law, Darcy (and Paul) Hoffner, Sullivan.
Local memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Sullivan First Baptist Church, 611 N. Wolfenberger St., with the Rev. Paul Myers officiating. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of services. In Munster, services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Ridge United Methodist Church, 8607 Columbia Ave, with the Rev. Steve Conger officiating. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of services, Munster time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family or to Ridge UMC.
