Mary Jean Lowry Markey, age 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Seton Specialty Hospital, Indianapolis IN., with family by her side. She was born in 1923 to Gus and Pauline (Batey) Lowry, Sullivan, Indiana. She was in the Sullivan High School graduating class of 1941 and received her Liberal Arts degree from Stephens College, Columbia, MO in 1943. During WWII, she worked as an Administrative Assistant at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, OH. She met and married John A. Markey of Andover, MA., and settled in Evansville, IN., where she was a homemaker. Her beautiful smile will be sadly missed by her children: Dianne Markey Hickey, Englewood, CO., Nancy Markey, Terre Haute, IN., John R. and Suzanne Markey, Brownsburg, IN., and her grandchildren: Stephanie Hickey Hahne, Parker, CO., Amy Hickey, Firestone, CO., Michelle and Sean Markey, Brownsburg, IN.

Relatives include her brother, Robert G. Lowry, Sullivan, IN. Nephews and nieces: Tom and Sandra Lowry, Sullivan, IN., Bob and Dolly Lowry, Carlisle, IN., Will & Lisa Lowry of Idyllwild, CA.; Grandniece and nephews: Jesse and Christopher Staebler of Greencastle, IN., Clinton Lowry, New Haven, CT.

Visitation will be held at 1pm Friday, August 5th, at Holmes Memorial Chapel, Sullivan, IN., with the memorial service at 2pm. Burial will follow in Sullivan's Center Ridge Cemetery. A Private family gathering will be held afterwards.
