Shelburn, IN William Roscoe Metheny, of Shelburn, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 21, 2011, at 3:43PM in the Sullivan County Community Hospital. He was born November 26, 1929 in Farmersburg, IN., to Orvale and Pearl Thompson Metheny. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Sylvia, sons Joseph and Mitchell, brothers Arby and Adrian Metheny, and sisters Dorothy McDaniel and Vera Manuel. He is survived by wife Betty Moench Metheny, sons Robert (Rosie)Metheny, Jeff (Sharlynn) Metheny, Andrew (Lisa)Metheny, grandchildren Aaron (Emily)Metheny, Amanda (Clayton) Earley, Kelsea (Jake)Wissing, Travis (Alena) Metheny, Mikayla Metheny, Tyler Metheny, great-grandchildren Isabelle, Sophie, and Sadie Metheny, Audrey and Maggie Earley, sister Thelma (Delbert)Pullum, a brother Harold (Diane) Metheny, and several neices and nephews. He retired from Pfizer in 1990 after 42 years having started there when he was 18 years old. He was very active in the Gideons. He was instrumental in getting Babe Ruth baseball started in Sullivan county in the mid 1950's, and then started the American Legion baseball program sponsored by the Shelburn American Legion. Bill was a mentor to many young men he coached around the Wabash Valley for 35 years. He was a army veteran of the Korean War. The viewing will be Monday, October 24th, at Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan from 10:00am until time of service at 2:00PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Gideons. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
