Roy J. "Junior" Timms, 86, of Carlisle passed away at 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Union Hospital. The 1942 graduate of Carlisle High School was born June 6, 1924 in Carlisle to Roy Timms, Sr. and Bertha Rose Timms. He was retired from the AMAX Coal Company, a member of the UMWA for sixty years and for his service to the coal industry he was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash in 1983 by the governor of Indiana. He was also appointed to the Mine Certification Board from 1971-1983. Junior, was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, a two time past master and thirty-six year member of the Carlisle Masonic Lodge #3 F & AM and a member of the Carlisle Chapter 185 Order of the Eastern Star. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Jim Timms and two sisters Gloria Solsman and Rula Hackett.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years Mary Jones Timms of Carlisle whom he married August 28, 1948, two sons Steven Timms and William (and Estella) Timms all of Sullivan, one daughter Sandra (and Brad) Winters, Fargo, ND, one sister Ann Thewlis, Sullivan, six grandchildren Paul Winters, Jenny Winters, LeeAnne (and Rick)Larson, Stephanie Timms, Jessica Timms and Rachel Timms four great grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Holmes Memorial Chapel, Sullivan with Rev. Bill Sam Phegley officiating. Burial will be in the Carlisle Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8:00 p.m. Friday with Masonic Services at 7:00 p.m.
