Dewey Dix Hayhurst, 80, of Palmetto, FL and formerly of Sullivan passed away at 7:05 a.m. Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Blake Medical Center in Bradenton. The 1948 graduate of Sullivan High School was born August 18, 1930 in Anderson to Dewey Hayhurst and Laura Dix Hayhurst. He was a retired Electrician and supervisor for Indiana-Michigan Electric and a member of the Church of Christ, Ruskin, FL and a fifty year member of the Carlisle Masonic Lodge #3 F&AM. He was preceded in death by his first wife Freda Shepler Hayhurst, his parents, one son Mark Hayhurst and one brother Harold Hayhurst. Dewey enjoyed his retirement in Florida, his summers at Lake Sullivan and golf at the Sullivan Elks with the Rinkydinks.

Survivors include his wife Shirley Bhew Hayhurst, Palmetto, one son Norman (and Sara) Hayhurst, New Lebanon, one daughter Marilyn (and David) Fuson, Sullivan, one step daughter Sherry (and Brian) Gadient, Indianapolis, five grandchildren Shad Hayhurst, Erin (Adrian) Phillips, Erica (Steve) Combs, Laura (Dan) Shryock, Jacob Hayhurst, one step granddaughter Kerri Guy, nine great grandchildren and other relatives.

Services with Masonic Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Holmes Memorial Chapel with Revs. Dale Wise and David Cox officiating. Burial will be in the MT. Zion Cemetery at New Lebanon. Visitation is 11:00 a.m. until time of services Thursday.
