Albert Keith Monroe, 90, of Carlisle passed away at 10:25 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Breckenridge Health and Living Center. The 1938 graduate of New Lebanon High School was born May 15, 1920 in New Lebanon to William Monroe and Alta Brown Monroe. He was a retired farmer and a former heavy equipment operator. Keith was a member of the Shaker Prairie Christian Church and a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Sullivan American Legion, Local 841 Operating Engineers and the Carlisle Odd Fellows Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Billie Keith Monroe, three brothers William, Richard and Alvin Monroe and an infant sister.
Survivors include his wife of seventy-one years Lois Knotts Monroe of Carlisle whom he married February 25, 1940, one son Ronnie (Carol) Monroe, Carlisle, one daughter Leah (Kip) Bedwell, Robinson, IL, one brother Bernard Monroe, Ft. Branch, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and other relatives.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Holmes Memorial Chapel, Sullivan with Rev. Bill Burress officiating. Burial with military graveside rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legions and the Sullivan VFW will in the Carlisle Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8:00 p.m. Sunday.
