Carlisle, IN Robert "Bob" Nicol, 67, of Carlisle, passed away at 2:43 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the Sullivan County Community Hospital. He was born October 14, 1944 in Sullivan County to Walter Nicol and Daisy White Nicol. The 1962 graduate of Carlisle High School and 1964 graduate of Vincennes University was an electronic technician retired from the the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Crane Division, after twenty-one years of service. Since then he worked in the forestry industry as a logger and sawmill owner. Bob was a member of the Carlisle Christian Church and a lifetime member of the United English Breeders and Fanciers. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William and Thomas Nicol. Survivors include his wife of thirty-seven years, Sara Singleton Nicol of Carlisle, whom he married in September 20, 1974. He is also survived by two sons; Robert D. and wife Sue of Oaktown and James F. and wife Mandy of Carlisle. Two daughters also survive him; Julie A. Bedwell and her fiancé John Bohnert, of Sandborn and Christy Nicol and her companion Tommy Barnes of Seattle, WA. He is also survived by one brother, Ed Nicol, Carlisle, six grandchildren, Matthew Nicol, Paige Nicol, Vance Bedwell, David Bedwell, Jack Nicol, Elizabeth Nicol, one great grandchild, Rilie Nicol, and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be at the Carlisle Christian Church on Wednesday November 30, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Bill Sam Phegley officiating. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. and be open until time of service. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Carlisle Christian Church Youth Van Fund. Envelopes will be available at the church. Services have been entrusted to the Holmes Memorial Chapel.
