Shelburn, IN Norman B. Hayes, 90, of Shelburn went home to be with his Lord at 6:17am, January 1, 2012 in his residence. Norman was born May 16, 1921 in Shelburn to James "Buck" Hayes and Nellie Lewis Hayes. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Elizabeth Day Hayes, a son Jim Hayes (Rita) of Terre Haute, granddaughters Jennifer Guyer (Matt) of Noblesville and Carrie Rowe (Jerry) of Terre Haute, great-grandchildren Brady and Norman Rowe of Terre Haute, and nephews Steve Whitlock of Shelburn, Jeff and Mark Hayes of Shelburn. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Velma Whitlock, and a brother Clifford Hayes. He was a 1939 graduate of Shelburn High School, a World War II veteran, a retired rural mail carrier, and a retired school bus driver for Northeast School Corporation. He was a member of the Shelburn United Methodist Church, Shelburn American Legion, Rural Carrier Association, Shelburn Community Club, and the 78th Division Association. He owned and operated, with his wife, a taxi service in Shelburn, and owned a service station as well. One of Norman's favorite things in life was dancing, especially, to "In The Mood". Viewing will be Wednesday, January 4, 2012, from 4:00 to 8:00PM, and services will be Thursday, January 5, 2012, at 1:00PM in Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan, with Pastor Carolyn Clark officiating. Interment will be in Little Flock Cemetery in Shelburn.
