John William Clerk 90, of Sullivan, passed away in his residence at 9:30 PM on May 21, 2012. He was born on September 19, 1921 in New Lebanon, IN to John R. Clerk and Martha Monroe Clerk. He is survived by his wife Betty J. Walters Clerk, daughters Saundra Sue Owings of Westfield IN., and Linda Sue Barton of Santa Rose Beach, Fl., a son John Edward Clerk of Sullivan, grandchildren Martha Kristine Barrientos, Matthew Carey Smith, Michael Christian Smith and Peter Jon Barton, and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary Lewellyn and Helen Neal Gier and a brother Hugh R Clerk. He was a graduate of New Lebanon High School in 1939. After serving in the Navy in World War ll he attended Indiana State Teachers College obtaining a degree in education after which he received his Master's Degree from Indiana University. He lived in Evansville for 45 years where he was Director of Vocational Education for Vanderburg County Schools. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Evansville. His visitation will be Thursday, May 24, 2012 from 10:00 AM until= time of service at 1:00PM which will be a celebration of life led by a niece Rev. Betty J. Clerk in Holmes Memorial Chapel
