Gene Carty, age 85, of Findlay, Ohio passed away at noon on Thursday, January, 12, 2012 at Blanchard Valley Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 8, 1926 in Sullivan, Indiana to William and Edna Carty. Gene married the love of his life, Sharon Lee Ford, on November 26, 1949, and she survives him. He is also survived by son Kevin and granddaughter Hunter of Columbus, OH, daughters Kim of Findlay, OH and Clair of Chicago, IL, brother Jim of Lafayette, IN. Preceding him in death were his daughter Kathy, his parents, and brother Bill. Gene served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and graduated from Indiana State University. Prior to moving to Ohio in 1964, he taught Special Education at Sullivan High School. In Ohio he pursued a career as a salesman. He was a member of the Elks and Masonic Lodge. Gene was also a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church and volunteered for several organizations. He loved to golf, play bridge, and was a pie-baker extraordinaire. He was an avid sports fan, rooting for the Yankees, the Steelers, and Ohio State, unless they were playing Indiana. Gene was a lifelong Democrat. Visitation is Saturday, January 14 from 2 to 6 p.m. at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, Ohio. Visitation in Sullivan, IN will be Monday, January 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at First Methodist Church. A graveside service will follow with Rev. Mike Brockway Officiating. Interment will beat the family plot in Center Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kathy Carty Memorial Scholarship of The Community Foundation, 101 W. Sandusky Street#207, Findlay, Ohio 45840.
