Violet (Kern) Matz 98, passed away at 3:20PM on December 2, 2012 in Miller's Merry Manor in Sullivan. She was born June 24, 1914 to Charles and Hattie Lumm Kern near Griffin, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lee, brothers Raymond, Bill and Manford, sisters Lelia, Erlene, Frances and Minnie, daughter-in-law Phyllis Matz of Cromwell, IN., and son-in-law Don Arnett of Graysville, IN. She is survived by a sister Ruby Hinds of Joplin, MO., daughters Nora Rinehart (Don) of Merom, Mary Arnett of Merom, and son David Matz of Cromwell, IN. There are nine grandchildren Charles, Jim, Mike and Brad Rinehart, Donna Harvey, Peggy Mroz, Larry Arnett, Emily Fitzgerald, Luke Matz, and seventeen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are the wonderful caregivers of Miller's Merry Manor who gave her loving care for the past six years. Violet was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church and attended the Word of Life Church in Sullivan. A dedicated farmer's wife, she loved fishing, gardening, entertaining her family and friends with her delicious home cooked means and wintering in Florida. Visitation is from 11:00AM until time of service at 1:00PM on Saturday, December 8, 2012 in Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan with Pastor Jeff Canfield officiating. Interment will follow in Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Word of Life Church, 502 North Court Street, Sullivan, IN. 47882. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
