Nelson Reid

June 29, 1925 — December 22, 2018

(Nelson) Dean Reid was born 6/29/1925 in Sullivan, IN. He graduated from Merom High School in 1943 and soon afterward joined the U. S. Navy. While in the service Dean was an aviation radioman and belly gunner in a B-24 photography unit serving the Pacific arena. Upon discharge he graduated from Ball State University in Industrial Arts and from Indiana State University with a Master's in Education. Dean worked as a designer and engineer for Pfizer, Inc. from 1951 until his retirement in 1986. He taught shop classes at Sullivan High School during a 1960-1961 layoff from Pfizer. Dean attended Sullivan First Christian Church, enjoyed woodworking, and socializing with friends.

Preceding Dean in death was wife Mary Griggs Reid, parents Martha Burke Reid and William T. Reid, brother William (Bill) Reid, and sister Lucille Smith. Surviving him are daughter Dee Ann (and Tom) Hostetler with son's Rick (wife Rachel, Madison, Mason, and Mathias) Hostetler and David Hostetler; son Gary (and Lisa) Reid with daughter Brooke (husband Samer, Luka) Serour and son Aaron (and Ashley) Reid; and friend/companion Joan Osborn.

Visitation will be Friday December 28 at Holmes Memorial Chapel (Sullivan) from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM with services immediately following. Burial will be at Center Ridge thereafter.
