Opal Mae Hester, 94 of Sullivan passed away in Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home at 1:11pm on Friday, May 16, 2014. She was born in Goreville, IL. on May 2, 1920 to Thomas and Daisy Ollis Burklow. Opal is survived by three sons Gary Hester (Ramona) of Sullivan, Allen Hester (Lisa) of Crestview, FL., and Dan Hester (Susan) of Terre Haute. Also surviving are grandchildren Mona Hester Bough, Robb Hester, Ryan Hester, Toni Haskell, Brea Hester, Ty Hester, Alana Sanchez, Livia Scott, Caroline Fields, and Nicholas Hester. Great-Grandchildren Austin Hester, Ariel Hester, Avery Hester, Taylor Hester, Sydnee Hester, Cortni Haskell, Lauryn Haskell, Kendall Haskell, Ian Scott, Ella Scott, Layla Fields, Abigail Hester, Nicholas Hester and Joseph Hester, and one great-great-grandchild Matthew Cunningham. Preceding her in death were her husband Cecil, whom she married on May 2, 1940, her parents, sisters Maxine Williams and Mildred Parrish, and brothers Ralph, Lynn and Dale Burklow. Opal worked in the bakery at the Great Scot Supermarket at 12th and Locust in Terre Haute, she also price checked at various groceries in Terre Haute for Great Scot finally retiring in 1982. While in the nursing home she loved to play bingo, and visiting with all her friends. There will be a private burial at Highland Lawn in Terre Haute. Holmes Memorial Chapel was entrusted with arrangements.
