Ralph Mason Woodward, 95, of Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday August 12, 2014 at Westminster Village in Terre Haute IN. He was born on March 8, 1919 in Carlisle on the family farm to Ira and Lillie Griffith Woodward. Ralph was a 1937 graduate of Carlisle High School, a 1941 graduate of Purdue University School of Agriculture, an Army Veteran of WWII stationed in Chicago as a meat inspector. He was a member of the Sullivan County Farm Bureau, Busseron Watershed Conservatory District; and as a farmer he was ahead of his time starting "No Till Farming". He was a genealogy enthusiast who always loved to play bridge. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife of 67 years, Winifred E "Wini" Woodward in 2009, a granddaughter Sheila Coleman in 1987, and a brother Bob Woodward. Wini, was also a graduate of Purdue University and together they established the Agronomy Scholarship Fund to assist students in their field of study. Survivors include his son Lee Woodward of Centre AL, daughters Sylvia and her husband Jerry Coleman of Sullivan, Sherrill and her husband Darryl Painter of Livingston TX, four grandchildren Shelly Collins of Zionsville IN, Lana Petty of Austin Tx, Ryan Painter of Phoenix AZ, Cole Woodward of Denver CO, nephew Dick Woodward, two nieces, and farming partner Charlie Kirschner,

Services for Ralph will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday August 16, 2014 at Holmes Memorial Chapel with Rev Mike Irvine Officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers friends may make donations to the Carlisle back pack association. Military services will be given by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legion's and Sullivan VFW. Burial will take place at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Carlisle.
