Raymond "Ray" Walter Quast

Raymond “Ray” Walter Quast, 80 of Sullivan, departed this temporary life for his permanent residence in Heaven, on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Union Hospital.  His loving family was by his side. His life journey began on July 18, 1944 in Dayton Ohio, the son of Walter and Marion Huron Quast.

He was a 1964 graduate of Fairmont High School. He was later employed for 34 years with Hoosier Energy, as a mechanic before retirement. He married his loving wife Joanne Arnett, on July 2, 1982, together they enjoyed life hand in hand.  He was a dedicated Sullivan First Baptist Church member, where he was a long term Decon, and a member of the search committee. He was a member of the Carlisle Masonic Lodge #3, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute where he was a 32rd degree MSA, was in charge of doing makeup for the different degrees, NRA, Terre Haute Moose Lodge, Sullivan Elks # 911, Gold Wing Riders Association. He enjoyed golfing with his “Rincky Dinks” group along with spinning tales with his “coffee buddies” at McDonald’s .

Ray was a devoted loving, kind hearted man, with a strong work ethic. He was a devout, husband, dad and papaw. His family and God were priorities in his life.  He would give those in need the shirt off his back and was always willing to help anyone in need.

Ray had a bit of a sweet tooth and Nutter Butter and Oreo cookies were his weakness. He was always willing to try out the cookies for everyone, just to make sure they were “ok” to share. He was especially fond of spending time with his horse, Bobby and pony, George. Ray's smile and absence will be deeply missed by his loved ones and close friends. He etched a lifetime of memories in the hearts of his family that even death can not erase.

His parents preceded him.

Those here to cherish his memory are his wife, Joanne Quast, a son, Shawn Quast (Kristal); granddaughter, Sage Quast; siblings, Jerry Quast of Palm Desert California, Mike Quast of Springboro Ohio and Rose Schrader of Lexington Kentucky, along with special friend, Marilou Lankford; nieces and nephews and extended family members. Also his four legged babies, Toby and Tosha.

Family and friends may pay respects on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 from 11:00 am. until time of service at 1:00 pm. at Holmes Memorial Chapel, with Reverend Ron Riggs and Reverend Mike Rotman officiating. Burial will follow at Center Ridge Cemetery.
