Richard Augustus Chowning, 76, of Fairbanks, Indiana, peacefully entered into the arms of Jesus on Friday, November 1, 2024. Richard was born on October 23, 1948 in Sullivan, Indiana to Augustus “Gus” Chowning Jr and Phyllis (Bock) Chowning.
Richard grew up in Fairbanks, Indiana and graduated from North Central High School in 1967. He married the love of his life, Kathleen Larger, on April 6, 1971. He worked for First Financial Bank in the IT department for more than 40 years. Richard was a long-time member of the Sertoma Club Service Organization, as well as The East Central Illinois Bluebird Society. After retiring, he enjoyed hunting, building bird feeders, watching Old Westerns, but most of all snuggling with his cat Jinx. He was an active member of The Prairie Creek Church of Christ.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Augustus”Gus” Chowning and Phyllis (Bock) Chowning.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 53 years Kathleen Chowning, two sons; Richard Chowning Jr, and Joseph Chowning (Maggie), brothers; Thomas Chowning and Edward Chowning (Jeanne); grandsons Gabriel Chowning and Isaac Chowning; step granddaughters, Shai (Caleb) and Kynlee.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to; Union Hospital ICU nurses and Techs; and Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care – especially the nurses and aids for their care and compassion.
The Service will be held at The Prairie Creek Church of Christ on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 11AM with Richard Woodason officiating. Burial will be at Chowning Cemetery in Shelburn, Indiana at a later date.
