Richard Broderick Crooks, passed away January 18, 2026.
Richard “Dick” was born in Sullivan, Indiana. He was one of 10 children born to the late Cecil William and Pansy Viola Broderick Crooks. His birth date was September 6,1939. Dick’s sibling's were Betty Keene, Rose Heck, Shirley Jo Owings, Barb Anderson, George Crooks, John Crooks and Mary Dollahan, all of whom are deceased. Surviving are Jim Crooks and Jane Doyle.
Dick graduated from Sullivan High School in the Class of “1957”. That same year he married Verna Frew Crooks, with who he had four children, Charles “Chuck” (Susie), Timothy (Kim), Robert (deceased) and Karen (deceased); grandchildren, Gavin, Ben and Matt (Nikki) Crooks, Tyler Crooks, Cameron (Cara) Crooks, Hanna Crooks, Casey Lewis (Brett) and Joe Alumbaugh (Alexa); great-grandchildren, Hayden, Lyla, Emmy, Colten, George, Max and Keziah.
He worked when he was young at the Newsstand, where he became manager. From there he began his career with Pfizer, where he was a dedicated employee for 33 years until retirement. He was Superintendent of Center Ridge Cemetery for 10 years.
Dick and Verna traveled a lot with Verna's brother, Dan and his wife Kay. Those were lot’s of adventurous and fun retirement years.
He enjoyed all of his large family, and made a lot of good memories with his children and grandchildren.
Services to celebrate a life well lived will be held at Holmes Memorial Chapel on Monday, January 26, 2026 at 11:30 am. with David Cox officiating.
