Robert Joseph Tarrh, 95, of Shelburn passed away peacefully at Regional Hospital on Nov. 28, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born Dec. 15, 1928, in Jackson Hill to Leonard and Vaneda Southwood Tarrh.

During High School, Bob worked part-time for Milwaukee and C&EI Railroads in Linton. Bob graduated from Sullivan High School in 1947 and was awarded the 12 years Perfect Attendance Award. After graduation, Bob started working in the underground Coal Mines as a buggy operator and later on he was licensed to be a Shot Firer in Indiana and Illinois. He worked at Regional Mine, Dugger Mine, John A Mine, Sullivan, Glendora Coal Co, Thunderbird Mine, Shelburn, Viking Mine, and Terre Haute where he managed the First Aid team. Bob worked in the mine for 16 years.

Bob married Norma Jean Moses in 1947. Unfortunately, the marriage lasted 5 years. Bob joined the U.S. Marines in 1952 during the Korean War. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC and did his training at Parris Island, NC. In 1956 Bob Married Carolyn Sue Deakins the mother of Bobby and Tony Tarrh. Unfortunately, their marriage lasted 13 years.

After service Bob worked for the General Motors Foundry in Danville, IL. In 1964 Bob Started working at Chrysler Electrical Plant located at Shadeland and 30th Street, Indianapolis. In 1984 employee Bob Tarrh, Dept. 72 was presented with a Quality Recognition Certificate from Bob Chambers, Plant Manager and C.M. Green, Union President Co- Plant Manager of the Plant Quality Improvement Committee. In 1986 and 1987 Bob was presented with an Annual Special Attendance Recognition Award Four Quarters of Perfect Attendance. This certificate expresses the appreciation of your fellow workers. The Union and Chrysler Motors for your commitment to be the best in attendance. Bob worked for Chrysler Corporation for 24 years and retired Oct. 31, 1988.

Bob married Betty Boone on July 27, 1974. When Bob passed away, they were married for 50 years.

Bob enjoyed rabbit hunting, raised and trained beagle dogs to hunt rabbits, gardening, basketball, football, Go-Kart racing with his sons and playing ball with his sons. Bob was a NASCAR fan. Bob enjoyed watching the wildlife roaming the woods behind the house.

Bob was a 50+ year member of the Hymera Eastern Star Chapters #289, Indiana Freemasons Shelburn Lodge # 369, Linton American Legion Post #0022, United Automobile Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Works of the America UAW #1226. Bob was a very special person- one of a kind. He was a Jack of all trades, a devoted kind hearted loving man and willing to help anyone in need.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Louella Zaayers, Thelma Wagner, one brother, Leonard Tarrh Jr., his youngest son, Tony Tarrh, two nephews, Larry Zaayer , Joe Tarrh, previous wives, Norman Jean Moses, Carolyn Sue Deakins (mother of Bobby and Tony Tarrh).

Survivors include his wife, Betty Boone Tarrh, whom he married July 27, 1974. They were married 50 years. Oldest son, Bobby Tarrh, four granddaughters, Jocey (Keith) Anderson, Morristown, Mindy (Jason) Floore, Canton, MS, Kayla (Randy) Davis, Morristown, Cassandra Tarrh, Shelburn, six great great grandchildren, five great great great grandchildren, three nieces, Linda Canup, Merom, Connie Hays, Sullivan, Lynn Tarrh, Goshen OH, two nephews, Johnny Wagner, Valrico, FL and David Tarrh Tunica, MS. along with freind Allen Honchell.

Funeral Services are at 1:00 PM December 6, 2024, at Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan with Reverend Norman Santus officiating. Family and friends may pay respects from 11:00 AM until time of service. Burial will follow at Little Flock Cemetery in Shelburn.
