Adventurous, kind, observant, patient, beautiful, and perfectly sassy, Sherlyn Kay Campbell passed away at her home on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the age of 81, following a brief battle with Parkinson’s disease

She proudly wore the titles of “Wifey,” “Mom,” “Grama,” “Daughter,” “Sister,” “Aunt,” “Cousin,” “Sher,” and “Friend.” And anyone lucky enough to call her by one of those names knew what it meant to be loved, seen, and embraced.

With those titles, she was also known for being a phenomenal seamstress, talented quilter, gifted painter, incredibly strong breast cancer survivor, and a girl who liked a little corn with her butter. Her love for the sunshine radiated throughout her hugs and shared pours of Chardonnay. She was never shy about her opinions, often followed by a finger or an “I’m just sayin’.”

Born and raised in Hymera, Indiana, Sherlyn met the love of her life, Mike Campbell. Together, they shared 59 years of marriage. They built a beautiful home, raised their children, Troy and Michelle, and created a lifetime of memories. Their granddaughter, Marina, grew up running around Grama and Papaw’s farm. There was no shortage of good memories and funny stories told around their kitchen table with friends and family.

Mike and Sherlyn were avid boaters starting out with a 19’ Sea Ray that they pulled skiiers behind on Sullivan Lake. Their love of the water led them to buying bigger boats including a houseboat on Lake Monroe and a 42’ Carver aft cabin motor yacht on Kentucky Lake that they named the “Marina Lynn”.

After retiring, Mike and Sherlyn became fun-loving snowbirds wintering first in the Florida Keys, where Sherlyn enjoyed stringing lights on a palm tree for Christmas with her granddaughter and then later in Mission, Texas, where it was no big deal to walk across the border to Mexico for a margarita.

Sherlyn loved her life, her family and all the lifelong friendships she made along the way.

She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Thompson and her granddaughter, Marina Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Campbell, her son Troy Campbell and her parents, Frank and Bertha Gertcher.

Graveside services will be on Thursday, October 22nd at 2pm at K of P Cemetery in Hymera.

Michelle and Marina wish to carry on her legacy the way Sherlyn would have wanted ... by loving hard, laughing harder, and making sure no one’s glass is ever half empty.
