Wayne Eugene Cox

October 31, 1927 — December 20, 2014

Wayne E. Cox, 87, of Carlisle passed away on Saturday December 20, 2014 at Miller's Merry Manor in Sullivan. He was born in Sullivan County on October 31, 1927 to Lillian (Cox) Meeks. He was a 1945 graduate of Carlisle High School, and became a self-employed carpenter by trade. Wayne was the caretaker of Oddfellows Cemetery for over 34 years, was a member of the First Christian Church of Sullivan, very involved with the Oddfellows Lodge of Carlisle, a member of the Carlisle Masonic Lodge #3 Free and Accepted Masons, and the Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years Agnes Allen Cox, whom he married on May 8, 1947, two daughters Mary (Don) Berry of Greenwood, IN., Nancy (Tom) Morin of San Antonio, TX, a son Larry (Becky) Cox of Carlisle, six grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and a special cousin Jo Gilbreath.

Services for Wayne will be at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday December 23, 2014 at Holmes Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Cox officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donation be made in Wayne's honor to the Carlisle Bicentennial Celebration Inc. P.O. Box 425, Carlisle, IN 47838. Envelopes will be available at funeral home. Wayne loved his community and was anxiously looking forward to attending the celebration next summer.
