Sullivan,
Wesley “Tad” Hood, 65, of Sullivan, saddled up his horse, put on his favorite cowboy boots and hat and rode off into his final sunset , on Monday, August 12, 2024 at Sullivan County Community Hospital, with his loving family at his side. Tad was the son of George and Jerry Woodruff Hood who entered this world on August 24, 1958 in Vigo County. He attended Shakamak High School.
Tad, was well known and outgoing, was willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. To know him was to love him, he was a true “American Cowboy”, who took life one day at a time and lived life on his own terms “his way”. He was in every aspect a true character of his own making in today's carbon copy world. There was and will never be another Tad ! His love for horses led him for many years to run the Saddle Barn and Concession stand at Shakamak State Park.
You would find him training, riding and caring for the stable mates. He was a jack of all trades who could do any task he took an interest in doing. He was a carpenter, tinkered with mechanical things and just took life at his own pace. In his spare time he enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He loved the outdoors.
Tad loved nothing more than time spent with his children and grandchildren. His family was his greatest treasure. His family and friends will forever miss his spirit and kindness. A “True” Cowboy is gone from among us.
He is preceded into the eternal sunset by his parents.
His family left with a lifetime of cherished memories are, his children, Bryce Hood (Angela), Cannon Hood, Keaton Hood, Cassie Hood, Victoria Hood, and Emily Hood; siblings, Zandy Hood (Carol), Jay Hood (Vicki), Alexis Ann Gilbert (Eddie), Amy Shepherd (Ritchie) and grandchildren, Westin Hood and Cheyenne Hood.
Services for Tad will be Friday, August 16, 2024 at the West Lawn Cemetery Chapel at 11 am. until time of service at 1 pm. with John Waterman and Jeff Lee officiating. Burial will immediately follow.
