Whitney (Whit) Courtney, 94, of Sullivan passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024 at Bloom at Kessler in Indianapolis IN. He was born in Sullivan IN on September 26, 1930 to Paul and Alice (Birch) Courtney.
Whit was a 1948 graduate of Sullivan High School and had joined the US Air Force where he was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and was married to Marjorie (Philips) Courtney and together had one son. He was a businessman having owned Brown Abstract Company (and subsequently Lawyer’s Title Insurance of Sullivan).
He was a faithful member of Bible View Baptist Church in Sullivan, loved IU Basketball and was always a hopeful Chicago Bears fan. Most importantly he was a devoted family man who loved his Savior.
Survivors include his son Scot Courtney and his wife Angela, grandchildren Grant and Keenan, sister in-law Betty Courtney, and a niece Terri (Courtney) Ridgway and nephew Doug Courtney.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife Joann Kelley Courtney a brother Don and his first wife Marjorie Courtney.
Services for Whit will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday October 18, 2024 with Pastor Larry Kimmell officiating, at the Bible View Baptist Church 315 S Ferris Street Sullivan IN 47882. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Dugger Cemetery. Holmes Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
