Wilbur Eugene Mcconnell

Wilbur Eugene McConnell, 75, of Shelburn passed peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, February 28, 2025 at The Waters of Sullivan. He was born the son of Rex and Evelyn Creed McConnell on March 15,1949 in Sullivan Indiana. Wilbur was a member of the graduating class of 1967 of Sullivan High School.  He retired from Amax Coal Company, Keensburg, Illinois Mine where he spent many dedicated years of service.

Wilbur was well known in his neighborhood for sharing his beautiful produce. Neighbors looked forward to his bounty each summer. He enjoyed riding Harley motorcycles and attending car shows. His favorite dog “Spike” was his devoted sidekick. To know Wilbur was to love him, his kind and gentle heart was shared abundantly with those he met.  With residency at The Waters in this last chapter of his life he was kind to the other residents, taking time to know them by name and help them throughout the day. His kindness has left a lasting impression on his caretakers and those he was in daily contact with.

His family is very thankful to his care team at The Waters and Gentiva Hospice.  Also his friends, Frank and Fred who looked out for him as well. The loving care and commitment they showered on Wilber will always be remembered.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

His family left to cherish his memory are his sister Rexanna Cox, and her husband Grover “Jr”.  A niece, Erica Cox and nephew, Eric Cox. Along with extended family and friends.

Graveside services will be Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Little Flock Cemetery,  at 11:00 am. with Minister David Cox officiating.

It was an honor for Homes Memorial Chapel staff to assist the family with arrangements.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers that if you so wish, memorial contributions be made to Brown Baggers, c/o Jean Carpenter, 7910 N.
