William "Bill" Sheffler Carrithers

William (Bill) Sheffler Carrithers, 82, passed peacefully in the comfort of his home on November 11, 2025.

He was born on November 26, 1942 in Sullivan, Indiana, to William Burnett Carrithers and Mary Ruth (Sheffler) Carrithers. He was a graduate of Carlisle High School, attended Purdue University, and is a United States Army veteran.

Bill is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Marsha (Kenney) Carrithers, daughters Sally (Billy), Amanda, and Suzanna (Shane), and grandchildren Bailey, Evan (Armaris), Justin (Katie), Elayna, and Willa. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ruth Ann Robbins.

Bill spent his life in Carlisle, Indiana and was a lifelong farmer and hunter. He enjoyed many adventures along the fields edges and in the woods near his home, and in the wilderness of Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico. He was a gunsmith and proprietor of Bill’s Sales & Service and Marsh Creek Outfitters, and a lifetime Member of the National Rifle Association.

Bill was a fan and follower of Ferrari Formula One racing, and Flat Track and Moto GP motorcycle racing. He and Suzanna enjoyed riding his motorcycle to races across the midwest. He enjoyed photography, documenting his life and that of his family who he loved spending time with.

Bill was a member of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows-Carlisle Lodge No. 50, Indiana Freemasons-Carlisle Masonic Lodge No 3, Sullivan American Legion Post 139, Sullivan County Honor Guard, Carlisle American Legion Post, the Valley of Terre Haute Scottish Rite, and the Greene County York Rite. He also served on the Sullivan County Credit Union board and was a member of Bethlehem Methodist Church.

Services will be at Holmes Memorial Chapel on Saturday November 15, 2025 with visitation from 11:00 am. until time of service at 1:00 pm., followed by burial at Odd Fellows’ Cemetery in Carlisle, Indiana. In-lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions can be made to Carlisle Odd Fellow Cemetery.
