William Gene Johnson

William Gene Johnson, 76, a loving husband, father and papaw, of Fairbanks slipped peacefully into his eternal rest on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Gene's life began on March 14, 1948 in Pine Bluff  Arkansas, born to Walter and Audra Johnson.

He graduated from Dollarway High School in 1966, after graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force.  On September 21,1968 he married the love of his life, Joyce Allred and together they enjoyed life while lovingly raising and nurturing 3 children. He was a long time employee and retiree from Hoosier Energy.

Gene was a life-time advocate for Veterans, showing his support and gratification. As a Veteran himself he was an advocate for veteran causes. His unit was US Air Force Security Forces, he later was a police officer for Joplin Police Department.  He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and reading. He was an avid history buff, enjoying the History Channel and SiFi movies along with documentaries. He enjoyed story telling, some truth while maybe adding a bit of drama in the mix. Most importantly in his life were his family. The time spent with each of them was treasured as they were the delight of his heart.

His loving family, left with lifetime memories to cherish are his wife, Joyce Allred Johnson; children, Gena Riley (Richard) and Tracy Frye (Michael) along with his beloved grandchildren, Ashleigh Jett (Curtis), Bridget Miller (Jeremy), Logan Trowbridge (Erika), Alexa Frye and Kennady Frye. 5 great-grandchildren along with nieces and nephews and extended family.

Preceding him are his parents and a son, Bryan Johnson; siblings, Lindal Johnson, Arlin Johnson and Alta Oliger.

Services will be private. Holmes Memorial Chapel and staff were honored to assist the family with arrangements.
