William Edward Monroe

Rev. William Edward Monroe known as "Bill or Buck", 87, of Sullivan passed away on Friday August 25, 2017 at his residence. He was born in High Point, North Carolina on July 30, 1930 to William Oliver Monroe and Roselee (Coleman) Monroe. Bill was a 1948 graduate of Merom High School, was a Navy and Airforce Veteran and the owner of Monroe Glass, Monroe Tire Shop, and Monroe Appraisals. He was a retired pastor of the First Christian Church in Shelburn. Preceding him in death are his parents, his first wife Beverly (Shelton) Monroe, a daughter Winona Howard, brothers Robert, Paul, and Felton Monroe, and sisters Thelma Keene and Katherine Adams.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years Betty (Comstock) Monroe whom he married on June 14, 1980, daughters Valerie (Tony) Trotter of Farmersburg, Elizabeth (Larry) Comer of Robinson IL, Vivian Marnin of Sullivan, Andrea (Clarence) Abbott of Sullivan, and a son Lonnie Monroe of AR. Step daughters Melissa Foster and her companion Daniel Potts and Melanie Foster of Sullivan. Step sons Gary (Staci) Foster and Carl (Rachel) Foster. Brothers Frank Monroe, Grover (Ruby) Monroe, a sister Wanda (Jerry) Collins, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Holmes Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Comer officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11 until the time of services. Military rites will be given by the Hymera, Shelburn and Sullivan American Legions and the Sullivan VFW. Burial will be at Center Ridge Cemetery.
