Zoe Elizabeth Coulson

September 22, 1932 — May 11, 2018

Zoe Coulson 86 went to our Lord on May 11, 2018 at Westminster Village in West Lafayette, IN. She was the first female vice president at Campbell Soup Company in 1981 and the first female member Board of Directors, Rubbermaid Inc. in 1982

After graduation from Purdue University with degrees in Home Economics and Education she started her career in Chicago in public relations for the American Meat Institute, J Walter Thompson Company, and Leo Burnett Company.

Zoe went to New York in 1964 to help resurrect a failing educational magazine in the business press section of Donnelley-Dunn &Bradstreet. At Good Housekeeping in 1967, she was first Food Editor, writing two best selling cookbooks. In 1975, she was appointed Director, Good Housekeeping Institute, where she managed a staff of 100 in eight departments.

Zoe spoke throughout the U.S. and the World at trade association conferences and women's programs. Her 1980 Good Housekeeping Illustrated Cookbook was translated into French, Portuguese, Japanese, U.K. and many international languages.

Zoe was recruited by Campbell Soup Company, Camden, NJ, in 1981 to create five new corporate marketing departments. She continued to travel internationally to offices of the company as well as to programs about consumer interests in foods and nutrition. She also testified before Congressional committees on labels and packaging.

Campbell sent Zoe to Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program in 1983. After retiring in 1991, She consulted about marketing in the U.S. then was sent to Moscow and Nichney-Novogorad, Russia by the International Executive Service Corps in 1998 and 1999.

Besides her corporate responsibilities, Zoe was a member of Board, Camden County United Way, Trustee, Cooper University Hospital and Elder, Old Pine Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. She continued as President, Philadelphia Purdue Alumni Club and has been a Board member, Harvard Business School Club of Philadelphia.

An active member of Friends of Old Pine Street, this non-profit raises money to preserve the historic graveyard, Presbyterian Church building, and community center in Society Hill area of Philadelphia. Where signers of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, Revolutionary and Civil Wars veterans and dignitaries are buried.

Among many professional awards, Zoe was honored by Grocery Manufacturers of American for her work with consumers and was named an Old Master and awarded Distinguished Alumni by Purdue University.

Preceded in death by her parents, Allan and Mary Thompson Coulson in Sullivan, Indiana and brothers Thomas and Lee Coulson, she is survived by brother John Coulson and wife Sue, West Lafayette, sister-in-law Beverly Shorter Coulson, Sullivan, IN, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at, Holmes Memorial Chapel, Sullivan IN Tuesday May 15, 2018 11:00 AM Visitation 9:00 AM. Burial will be at, Center Ridge Cemetery, Sullivan, IN
