Carlisle,
Arthur McKinley, a loving husband, father and grandfather, 82, of Carlisle slipped peacefully away at his home with his loved ones by his side. Arthur was born September 23,1941 in Vigo County to Howard and Frances Pierson McKinley. He was a 1961 Graduate of Carlisle High School. Following graduation he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country honorably from 1961 until 1964. He married his lifelong love, Virginia Terrell on February 27, 1965. From this union they cherished and raised 2 children. Arthur was a long time member of Shaker Prairie Christian Church. He also attended Followers of Christ in Carlisle.
He was a member of BPOE #911 the NRA, also a 50 year member of the Free and Accepted Masons #3 of Carlisle along with a 50 year member of Eastern Star #188 of Sullivan. He retired from farming and his excavating business. He was never one to be idle, he was still doing the job of a much younger man at the age of 82. He always enjoyed outdoor life. Golfing, fishing, hunting, traveling and classic cars were a few of his passions. None were as important to him as his title of husband, Dad and Papaw. He loved every minute spent with them, he was extremely close to Brantley, the 2 shared much time together making miles of memories that Brantley will cherish through-out his lifetime.
Those gone before him are his parents and brother-in-law Mickey Walker.
His family left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Virginia; son, Brian (Angie) McKinley; daughter, Angela (Bob) Sager; sister, Ruby Walker; brother, Dan (Peggy) Custer; grandchildren, Ryan (Kylee) McKinley, Stephanie (Nate) Long, Jessica (Kevin) Beals and Ashley McKinley along with 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at Holmes Memorial Chapel on Wednesday November 15, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. with visitation from 4:00 pm. until time of service. Chaplin Jeff Fulk will be officiating. Military Honors will be given by Sullivan County Honor Guard at 6:00 p.m.
