Barbara Sue (Spencer) Riggs

Barbara Riggs, 88, of Terre Haute, passed away on Friday September 22, 2023 in Cobblestone Crossing.  She was born in  Sullivan IN on June 5, 1935, to Russell Spencer and Tressie (Hawkins) Spencer.  She was a 1953 graduate of St. Clairsville High School in Ohio and Indiana State University. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved to tailgate at the IU football games. She enjoyed traveling, playing golf with her friends, but her passion was teaching. Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband Monte Riggs, her son Charles Riggs, a brother Jack Spencer and a sister Patricia Pinkston. 

Survivors include her daughter, Tracy Riggs of Indianapolis, step daughter, Pamela (Steve) McLin of Terre Haute, one granddaughter, one grandson, two great granddaughters, five nieces and several other family and close friends.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday September 27, 2023, at Holmes Memorial Chapel with pastor Ben Wetherington officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Center Ridge Cemetery. If friends so desire in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sullivan County Humane Society, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
