Carl Bogard, 91, of Merom, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on July 22, 2022. He was born on March 27, 1931 to Olin Edward Bogard and Almarena Margaret (Mize) Bogard. Carl was in the last graduating class of Merom High School (1950) and then joined the Army where he served in the Korean War. When Carl returned home he married the love of his life Mary, and together they started their family. There was nothing more important to Carl than being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed farming, fishing, camping and belonging to the Merom United Methodist Church. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 841. Preceding him in death are his parents, his sisters Mary Anelda Bogard and Alice Solsman, and his brother Robert Bogard.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years Mary (Russell) Bogard, whom he married on October 19, 1957, daughters June (Allyn) Shacklett, Peggy LeCount, and son Douglas Bogard (Mary Daughetry), a brother Bill Bogard, grandchildren, Byron (Mary) Hoesman, Rachel (J.R.) Merritt, Rick (Jessica) Wright, Danielle (Shane) Bartley, Ashley (Trent) Rinard, Patricia (Sawyer) Lancaster, Jacob Bogard, Aaron Shacklett, and Susanna Bogard, several great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Holmes Memorial Chapel with Pastor Erich Blevins officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Military honors will be given by the Sullivan County Honor Guard. Burial will take place at Merom Cemetery.
