Casey Lee Gettinger, 39, of Sullivan passed away on June 3, 2021. He was born at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute on July 28, 1981 to John R. Gettinger and Marsha (Monk) Kennedy. Casey was a 2000 graduate of Sullivan High School and was employed as head cook at Kat-A-Korner. He had recently completed training to become a Certified Recovery Specialist and was working at the Wabash Valley Recovery Center as a designated Community Health Worker where he had the ability to use his own addiction struggles to help other’s overcome theirs. He attended Maryland Community Church, Kingsley United Methodist Church when he was younger and enjoyed fishing, spending time at his family’s farm, and helping others. Casey was a friend to many and was loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. Preceding him in death are his grandparents, John D. and Evelyn Gettinger, grandfather, John Richard “Dick” Monk, and uncle, Leslie Monk.
Surviving him is his companion Kattie Mataya; parents, John R. Gettinger (Polly) and Marsha Monk Kennedy (Paul Hoffner); grandmother, Laura Joyce Monk; brothers, Jason and Cody Gettinger; sister, Katelynn Kennedy; nieces, Jaci and Sherri Gettinger; nephew, Owen Gettinger; uncles, Tom (Nancy) Gettinger and Dan Gettinger; several cousins; and children whom he claimed as his own, Mataya Welch and Hayden Adams.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Holmes Memorial Chapel with services to celebrate his life starting at 4:00 p.m. Pastor Eddie Hammond will officiate.
