Charles L. Tegarden, Sr., 93, returned to his heavenly home on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at Breckenridge Health and Rehab. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was born in Fruita CO., on September 5, 1926 to the late Raymond and Ruth Tegarden. His family moved to Wichita, KS., where he grew up and lived most of his adult life. Charles enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing the harmonica and singing. One would often hear him humming a tune. He enjoyed singing hymns with his daughters and working puzzles with his family. He was a devoted Christian who lived his life serving his Savior. Preceding him in death are his parents, and his wife Hazeldene in 2016, his sister Delouris Pollard, brothers Robert and Norman Tegarden.
As a member of the “Greatest Generation”, He served honorably in the Pacific in WWII. He returned after the war and eventually working at Bell Telephone, where he met his future wife, Hazeldene (Miller) Tegarden. They were married on June 6, 1950. They retired to Marshfield MO., and later moved to Sullivan to be closer to family. They were married 66 years and were very devoted to one another. They are now together forever.
Survivors include his youngest brother Leroy, children, Charles Tegarden Jr. and his wife Shirley, Claudia (Jerry) Wilson, Julia (Jeff) Jordan, four grandchildren Jill (Steve) Nichols, Melissa Taulbee, Kyla (Ben) Nichols, Jacob Jordan, his great grandchildren who brought many smiles and laughter, include; Tiffany, Nora, Wilson, Shaelie, Braeden as well as many nieces, nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate his life are private. Burial will be at Mt. Tabor Cemetery. If friends so desire memorial contributions may be made to the Sullivan County Humane Shelter, 2425 N Section St. Sullivan IN. 47882.
