Dale S. Phillips, 86, of Sullivan, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born in Sullivan County on May 13, 1934 to Melvin Marshall Phillips and Laura Pauline (Marshall) Phillips. Dale was a 1952 graduate of Graysville High School and then entered the US Army. He retired as a project engineer at Indiana Michigan Power at the Breed Plant of Sullivan County.
He was a member of the Sullivan First United Methodist Church, the BPOE Sullivan Elks #911, the Sullivan American Legion, former Sullivan Republican chairman, member of the Hamilton Center Board, past president of Mann-Turman Cemetery Board and former board member of Center Ridge Cemetery. He was a member of Rural Christian Academy Board. He wasElks State Chairman for Indiana Drug Awareness programs.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Betty Jean (Golish) Phillips, who he married on February 28, 1955; his sister, Phyllis Bailey of Sullivan, and other extended family members.
Services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2020 at Holmes Memorial Chapel with Rev. Lance Newton officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 – 5:30 p.m. Elks services will begin at 5 p.m. Military services will be presented by the Sullivan County Honor Guard. Burial will be at Mann-Turman Cemetery in Graysville. The family suggests that if friends so desire memorial contributions may be made to Sullivan First United Methodist Church, 101 N Court Street, Sullivan, IN 47882. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
