Donald Leon McClure, 71, of Shelburn, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute.
He was born in Sullivan County on October 9, 1949 to Estil McClure and Lera (Black) McClure.
He served in Vietnam in the 11th ACR from 1969-71, where he received several awards and decorations, including the Bronze and Silver Star as well as a Purple Heart. He was also a member and a former commander of the Shelburn American Legion. He worked at the Shelburn B & G for 49 years. In his free time he loved to fish with his best friend, Timmy. He was also an avid sports fan and coached many teams during his life.
He loved his family and grandkids and will truly be missed by anyone who got the chance to know him.
Donald is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patty (Howard) McClure; two daughters, Tracy Jo (Matt) Thompson, Kara Nichole (Josh) Elkins; four grandchildren, Trey Thompson, Ty Thompson, Keylin Thompson, Rhydlee Elkins (all of Shelburn); a brother, Marvin (Mary) of Shelburn; and a sister, Toni Bolinger of Marshall, IL.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judith Shepard of Arizona.
A viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Holmes Memorial Chapel.
Military Rites will be at 4 p.m. on Friday at Holmes Memorial Chapel and will be performed by the Shelburn, Hymera and Sullivan American Legion and the Sullivan VFW.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the Shelburn American Legion.
