Donnis Wilson Obituary

Donnis Wilson, 74, of Sullivan, IN passed away on Friday, June 26th at home with his family.  He was born on May 27th, 1946 in Macon GA. to Harland and Thelma Wilson.  Donnis married Sandra (Fisher) Wilson on October 23rd, 1965 and they would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this October.

 

Donnis began his trucking career in his youth but in 1971, he and his family moved to Hanna, Wyoming where he worked in the coal mining industry.  In 1981, Donnis moved his family back to Sullivan where he returned to the trucking industry.  In 2011, Donnis finished his career in trucking and retired from Wal-Wart, where he received numerous awards.  During his career, he travelled all of the lower 48 states and logged over 6,640,000 miles.

 

After retirement, Donnis travelled extensively with his wife and family.  He was an active member of the Sullivan First United Methodist Church where he enjoyed helping in the kitchen and spending Wednesday mornings drinking coffee with his friends.  Donnis was also a member of the Sullivan Elks Lodge 911 (53 yrs.), Sullivan Masonic Lodge (50 yrs.), Scottish Rite (40+ yrs.), Zorah Shrine of Terre Haute (40+ yrs.), and the Sullivan County Shrine Club.

 

Donnis is survived by his wife Sandy, daughter and son-in -law Julie and Brian Everhart of Sullivan, Indiana, son and daughter-in-law Donnis Tod and Kelly Wilson of Newburgh, Indiana, grandson Donnis Jess Walters (wife Laura, great-grandsons Sampson and Syler) of Newburgh, Indiana, grandson Harrison Donnis Wilson of Brooklyn, New York, and granddaughter Madeline Wilson of Fort Collins, Colorado.

 

Also surviving Donnis are brothers Sonny (Ruth) Wilson, Rudy (Beth) Wilson, Tim (Tina) Wilson, Harv Wilson, sisters Nancy (Bob) Thompson, Larraine (Bill) Banther, Durinda (John) Bontrager, Rebecca (Terry) Webster, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

 

Private services for Donnis will be held in Sullivan with John Bontrager officiating. 

 

In-lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Fellowship Committee at the Sullivan First United Methodist Church. 107 North Court St.  Sullivan IN., 47882.
