Eddie Lee “Ed” Shipley, 88, of Plainfield, formerly of Hymera, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 10:41 p.m. Monday November 30, 2020, at Countryside Meadows in Avon. He was born on December 15, 1931 in Jackson Hill Community to William Loren “Red” Shipley and Blossom Fern (Batson) Shipley. He was a graduate of the class of 1950 at Hymera High School. He married Ruby Joy Fulks on August 14, 1954 at Anderson. He was employed at the Container Cooperation of America in Anderson IN. for 18 years before moving back to Hymera. He retired after 20 years from Bemis Co. in Terre Haute. He was a member of theWest Side Church of Christ of Sullivan, and a 68 Year Member of the Hymera Shepard Russell American Legion Post 298. He proudly served his Country as a Master Sargent during the Korean War. Ed enjoyed fishing, gardening and family gatherings. He was Mr “Fix-it” to all especially to his children and grandchildren. He could always find a way to fix broken things and build new ones. His favorite foods were anything chocolate and ice cream.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ruby; son, Timothy (Gail) Shipley and daughter, Dorinda Evans, of Plainfield; grandchildren, Naomi Carrio, Galina (Nicholas) Stucker and Megan Shipley of Plainfield; step granddaughter, Lindsey (Travis) Taylor of Champaign IL; step grandsons, Scot (Elizabeth) Trueblood of Plainfield and Cory (Adria) Trueblood of Greenfield; great grandsons, Camden Shipley; and step great grandchildren, Ashton, Aiden and Brennan Trueblood, Devaon, Jaydon, Brooklyn, Emily, Hannah, Kameron and Sadie Taylor. Also surviving are ex-son-in-law, Frank Carreio Jr of Terre Haute; sisters, Iris Daugherty of Graysville and Vivian Southwood of Jackson Hill; sisters in-law, Kay Shipley of Sullivan, Nahn Fulks of CA, Wanda Young of Anderson and Janice Geiger of Lapel; and a host of very special nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law, Charlotte (Anderson) Shipley; brothers, Virgel and Carl Shipley; brothers in-law, Everette Daugherty, Leo Southwood, Norman and James “Jimmy” Fulks Jr., Herbert Jones, Duane Young, and Ivan Geiger. Also his “Buddy” from the Korean war, Alois (Louie) Ruzicka; Sisters in-law, Ruth (Fulks) Jones, and Donna (McMilian) Shipley.
Services will be at at 3:00 p.m. on Friday December 4, 2020 at Holmes Memorial Chapel with Pastor Wes Bedwell officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. Burial will be at K of P Cemetery in Hymera. Military Services will be given by the Sullivan County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Wabashi, 3525East Harlan Dr., Terre Haute, IN. 47802. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
