Edward Dean McKinney, 92, of Sullivan, formerly of Merom, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born in Pimento, September 4, 1929, to John E. McKinney and Myrtle (South) McKinney. Dean graduated from Merom High School in 1947 and entered the Navy in 1947 serving four years as a mail clerk aboard the USS Leyte. He was a proud veteran and enjoyed residing in Merom where he worked on several committees throughout his years including: The Merom Improvement Association, The Merom Town Board and The Water Superintendent. Dean was employed in many different jobs throughout his lifetime. He loved sharing stories of his truck driving adventures. He was the owner of McKinney’s Café for several years before retiring. After retiring he worked night shift security for a coal mine, and tended to a local car wash and laundromat. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Frances, Alice, Lilly, Kenneth, John M Jr, Thelma, Kathryn, Tom, Billy and one son Ronnie (Vicki) McKinney of New Lebanon, IN.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Linda Darlene McKinney, children: Lennie (Barbara) McKinney, DeeDee (Kentz) Pirtle, Susie (Bret) Cox, grandchildren: Blaine McKinney, Rhonda McKinney, Matt McKinney, Lauren Fifer, Desireé Maurer, Mary McKinney, Nathan Pirtle and McKenzie Pirtle, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and great grandchildren.
Services for Dean will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 20, 2021 at Holmes Memorial Chapel with pastors Ron Riggs and Bret Cox officiating.
Visitation will be on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Merom Cemetery.
