Elmer Carl Bell, 82, of Sullivan, passed away on Tuesday September 7, 2021 at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born in Sullivan County on April 8, 1939 to Charles Sr. and Flossie (Daugherty) Bell. Elmer had served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War as a Corpsman in the Chanute Air Force Base Hospital, Rantoul, IL, and had worked in Sullivan for Mary Sherman Hospital, Huff Furnace & Pump, Tindall’s and had owned and operated Bell’s Appliance Repair. Elmer was a member of the Evangelical Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Charles Bell, Jr.; an infant brother Jerry, and a step daughter, Penny (Hill) Trimble Martin.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years Janet (Yager) Bell, whom he married on March 17, 1979; two sons, Carl Wayne Bell (Karen), of Decatur GA, and Ronald Joe Bell (Tammy), of Sullivan; two step-daughters Janet Gerken (Larry), of Findlay OH, and Maggie Piel (Eric), of Sullivan, two granddaughters, Ashley Arnett (Logan), of Sullivan and Morgan Bell, of Sullivan, seven step-grandchildren, one great grandson; nine step great grandchildren; four sisters: Ruby Cullison of Dugger; Norma Howard (Ken), of Dodge Center, Minnesota; LaDonna Kay LaFollette, of Sullivan, and Carolyn Dunder (Steve), of Sullivan; a brother John Bell, of Carlisle, and other relatives.
Grave side services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday September 11, 2021 at Johnson Cemetery, north of Graysville with Pastor Mark Bailey officiating. Military services will be given by the Sullivan County Honor Guard. Holmes Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
