Howard P. Higgins, 97, of Terre Haute, passed away at Regional Hospital on July 26, 2021. He was born on December 16, 1923 in Vigo County to Raymond and Marie Florence (Austin) Higgins. Howard was a 1941 graduate of Honey Creek High School, he joined the Air Force in 1942 and was part of the “Mighty 8”. He married the love of his life on June 20, 1945 in London, England to Gwendoline Lillian (Jones) Higgins. He went to work for IMC Chemical and retired after 43 years of service and during that time earned his B.S. Degree from Indiana State College. He was member of Memorial Methodist Church, a member of the Traveling Sportsman Club for over 41 years and was the past secretary and treasurer, a past Master of Terre Haute Lodge #19 and current member of Riley #390 Free and Accepted Masons.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife of 75 years Gwen, a son Lawrence Higgins in 2002, a brother Raymond Higgins, and three sisters Frances Kruzan, Mary Ellen Jenkins and Barbara Fuller.
Survivors include a son David Higgins of Rockville, four grandchildren Jeff (wife Jessica), Jessica, Ryan, Mary Higgins and 4 great grandchildren Ethan, Addison, Jace and Jaelynn. Two daughter-in-laws Renee Higgins, Gayle Higgins, several nieces, nephews, and special friend of Howard and Gwen, Mary Diehl.
Private services will be held at the grave side. Burial will take place at Roselawn Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to Holmes Memorial Chapel.
