Jack Wagner Obituary

Jack H. Wagner of Sullivan, Indiana, passed away of COVID 19 on 01/11/2021.

Jack was born in Sullivan, Indiana, on 6/24/1928 to Hubert Earl Wagner and Bessie Naomi (Nicholas) Wagner (both deceased). Jack attended public School for 8 years in Sullivan, IN. He graduated from Shortridge High School, Indianapolis, IN in 1948, while serving in the United States Navy and he attended one year at Arlington State College, Dallas, Texas.

Jack served in the United States Navy as radioman aboard the USS Missouri (1947 -1950).

From 1950 – 1951 he worked as an Office Clerk with State Highway Commission in Indianapolis, IN and from 1951 -1977 at Pfizer, Inc. working the  majority of his years in the Vigo Plant Protection Department.

After moving to Florida in 1977, Jack worked 10 years for General Electric, and, for several years, after retirement he was a driving instructor.

Jack loved all sports and was quite an athlete, himself. At age 16, Jack was ranked second in Indiana in table tennis, having been taught by a two time World Champion. He was on a Bowling League in the fifties, he was a hunter, and an avid golfer.

From 1959 to 1977, Jack Wagner coached baseball, umpired and refereed, multiple teams and sports in Sullivan, IN.  He is remembered by many for his encouragement and coaching.

In addition to his love of sports was his and Bonnie’s love of dancing, they were a great couple on the dance floor.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Bonnie (Jackson) Wagner. Jack and Bonnie are survived by their children: Steven M Wagner (Veronica) (Florida); Denise J Shorter (Florida); Shauna K. Moore (Scott) (North Carolina); Nora F Wagner (North Carolina) , Jack’s oldest son, Jack Clark (Florida) and Jack’s brother, Richard L. Wagner (Roxanne, wife) (Florida).  Additionally, Jack and Bonnie are survived by their 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Jack and Bonnie were married 60 years, and raised their four children in Sullivan, IN. Each are proud of their loving and wonderful parents and will miss them greatly until the day of reunion in heaven.

The family wished to say, "Thank You," to Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home in Sullivan, IN where Jack was given excellent care and love for the last years of his life.  He was surrounded at the time of death by caring nurses and aides.
