James McCammon Obituary

James “Jim” McCammon, 82, of Charlestown, IN, passed away on Saturday June 27, 2020 at University Hospital in Louisville, KY. He was born in Sullivan, IN on April 1, 1938 to Ivan McCammon and Wilma (Jones) McCammon.  Jim was a 1956 graduate of Sullivan High School and had joined the Air Force for four years before starting his successful career in life and health insurance sales. Jim was a 50-year member of the Sullivan Masonic Lodge #263, as well as several professional organizations.  He loved riding motorcycles, using his ham radio, and keeping up with technology.  He was active in many ham radio and motorcycle associations/clubs.  He would tell you though that his greatest love would be his children and grandchildren. One of his favorite sayings was, “I am going to live forever.  So far, so good.”

Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife of 45 years, Marilyn (Pirtle) McCammon in 2007; and a brother, John, in 2009.

Survivors include: his daughters, Melanie Minteer of Louisville, KY; Melissa Nance of Sellersburg, IN; three grandchildren, Victoria Minteer, Madison Nance, and Zachary Nance; several nieces, nephews, other family, and many close friends.

Visitation will be from 11:00a - 1:00p and services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday July 2, 2020 at Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan, IN with Rev. David Cox officiating.  Masonic services will begin at the start of the service. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery in Farmersburg, IN.  Military honors will be given by the Sullivan County Honor Guard.  The family suggest that if family and friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Ballard Dance Maroon in support of pediatric cancer research.  They may be sent to Ballard Dance Maroon c/o Melanie Minteer, 1120 Girard Dr., Louisville, KY 40222.
