James Albert Ward, 90, of Shelburn, peacefully passed away surrounded by close friends and family on July 29, 2023. Jim was born on March 27, 1933, in Shelburn to John and Anna Ward. He graduated from Shelburn High school in 1951. Jim served in the United States Marines for 8 years. He served in the Korean War and was forward deployed to Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He married Betty June Kistner Ward June 23, 1956. He was a former member of the Apostolic Church of Hymera for 30 years. Jim had worked for Indiana Gas and Chemical in Terre Haute for 30 years, Turtle Creek Reservoir for 8 years, and The Shelburn Town Board for 30 years. Jim was a Mason, loved fishing, hunting and spending time with friends and his dog Tippy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 57 years, a son Jeffry Ward, four brothers Herbert, John Jr, Eddie and William, five sisters, Charlotte Dodds, Norma Ward, Jackie Cody, Evelyn Scott, Nellie Wilson, and several nieces and nephews.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews and several close friends.
Services will be held at Little Flock Cemetery August 2, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. with pastors James and Logan Quick officiating. Military rites will be given by the Sullivan County Honor Guard.
