Jerry Allyn Baker, 89 of Sullivan, Indiana passed on January 3, 2021 and reunited with his wife in their heavenly home.  Jerry was born at home in Wheatland, Indiana on December 25, 1931 to Emma and Herald Baker and was welcomed home by older brother, Leon Baker, with 2 younger brothers, Dean and Sam Bert to eventually complete their family.  After Jerry’s Father’s passing in 1946 his mother married Lawrence Nimnicht.  Jerry graduated from Wheatland High School and joined the United States Navy in 1950 and served during the Korean War until 1954 as Navy E-4 Petty Officer Third Class. On August 8, 1954 Jerry Allyn married Jerry Carolyn Shouse of Vincennes, Indiana.  They became known as “The Jerry’s”.  In 1958 they moved to Terre Haute, Indiana. Jerry went to work for Public Service.  He went on to become the Union Representative for IBEW Local 1393 and Duke Energy retiring in 1992.  Throughout his life he was known as a man of faith, serving Jesus Christ which led him to serve in many capacities; elder and deacon at Union Christian Church, Emmaus and Kairos Ministries, small group leader, and Sunday School teacher.  He refereed high school and college basketball in Indiana and Illinois, as well as umpiring men’s fast pitch softball for 25 years.  After retirement he worked at Idle Creek Golf Course and ushered at Hulman Center.  The Jerry’s spent 14 winters in Winter Haven, Florida after retirement.  If the St. Louis Cardinals were playing you would find him in front of the TV cheering on his favorite team.

He is survived by his four children; James “Bert” and Lynette Baker of Sullivan, Indiana, Janna and Tony Guyer of West York, Illinois, Joseph and Michell Baker of Ellis Grove, Illinois, and Julie and Jerry Dusenberry of Monticello, Illinois, 21 grandchildren as well as 22 great-grandchildren and two on the way, 3 brothers, 3 sisters in law, several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his wife of 66 years, parents, stepfather, sister in law, brother-in-law, son in law, two nieces, and a stepsister.

The family would like to thank the staff at Breckenridge Health and Rehabilitation for their compassion, care, and love through his hard fought battle with dementia.
